Adopting the physiological envelope system designed in the previous project, this project explored the potential of extracting the technologies of the human body for architectural applications, including environmental response and structural performance. The building encourages and assists disabled athletes to participate in Paralympics games from cyborgnification to humanification and rehabilitation, providing a multi-sensory experience for the users.
Analogous to the human thermoregulation system, “the Physiological Envelope” investigates the potentials of developing a responsive architectural envelope system that regulates indoor temperature. The involuntary responses including vaso-regulation, shivering and sweating are integrated into the building’s designed behaviours. Material sensitive properties are exploited to have the building spontaneously react to temperature changes without electrical mechanics.
